International Museum of Women Founded

The International Museum of Women (IMOW) was originally founded in 1985 as the Women’s Heritage Museum in San Francisco. In 1997, the board officially renamed the grassroots organization to the International Museum of Women to reflect its expanding global scope and mission to address women’s issues.
