Tanya Saunders
Tanya Saunders (1936-2018) was the owner of Cubbyhole, the infamous West Village lesbian bar. She was born in Germany in 1935. She and her mother fled and immigrated to New York in 1939 following the Nazi invasion.
Cubbyhole was originally DT’s Fat Cat from 1987-1993. Saunders created one of the most well-known and long-standing lesbian bars in the U.S.
