Dorothy Pallante Burkhart was an American art writer, critic, and educator whose career was closely tied to the development of contemporary art in Northern California. After earning bachelor’s and master’s degrees in art from San José State University, she began writing for ARTWEEK and contributed to publications including ARTnews and Visions Art Quarterly. She later served as a staff art writer for the San Jose Mercury News for over a decade, where she played a key role in documenting and promoting regional artists and institutions.
